Cape Cod Baseball League

For schedules and additional information, be sure to visit www.capecodbaseball.org

The Cape Cod Baseball League was started in 1885 and today exists as an invitational summer league for premier college baseball players. With any trip to a Cape League game, you will undoubtedly be looking at several future big-league players from both teams. Alumni include Carlton Fisk, Thurman Munson, Ron Darling, Mo Vaughn, and Nomar Garciaparra. Current Red Sox players Kevin Youkilis, Mike Lowell, Dustan Mohr, Jason Varitek, Adam Stern.

Admission to all games is free, and the teams are run solely on corporate and fan donations, and money from concessions. Each park has a beautifully manicured field with seating on stands and on the grass around the field, with crowd capacities ranging from 1,500 to almost 4,000. Each park also features its own kitchen/snack shop and souvenir shop. The Cape League is adored by tourists and locals alike, and you will find a devoted following in each of the 10 towns represented. The games are very family friendly, making them a terrific place to bring the kids, especially since admission is free and you can come and go as you please. Most teams also sponsor baseball camps and clinics for kids during the summer. Visit their websites for more information.

Games start at either 5:00 or 7:00, depending on whether the park has lights.

Another great place to visit is the Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame, featuring a history of each of the teams, and teams of the past that cease to exist today, like the Sandwich team of the early 20th century. Also included are various historical artifacts, memorabilia, and of course, the Walls of Fame, featuring those players, coaches, administrators, and broadcasters lucky enough to have been enshrined. The Hall of Fame is located at Heritage Museum and Gardens, on Grove Street in Sandwich.
