Cape Cod Weather Calendar

January
January is dreary and cold, with temperatures wavering in the 20’s and 30’s. Expect snowfall and even rain, and be sure to pack for the cold weather: boots, gloves and a heavy jacket are necessary.

February
February is very similar to January, but typically brings more snowfall.

March
The weather in the month of March is varied, and is almost impossible to predict and plan for. You might enjoy a beautiful day playing tennis in the sun, or find yourself digging out after a snowstorm. Temperatures can be as low as the 20’s and as high as the upper 50’s and lower 60’s.

April
April, like March, can bring cold temperatures and minimal snowfall and also sun and temperatures in the mid 50’s. Bring a waterproof jacket for outdoor activities, and make sure you bring a diversified selection of clothing.

May
In May, the temperature can reach the mid 60’s, but there are also some cooler days in the lower 50’s. Bring lightweight clothing and a lightweight jacket. In May, the weather is ideal outdoor activities, although not as warm as the summer months. Be sure to get outside before the busier summer months!

June
Temperatures in June are usually in the 60’s and 70’s, but there is a cool sea breeze that chills the air. Although the weather is good for beach going, the ocean water is usually a bit cool for swimming (because of water’s high specific heat, it takes a long time to heat up, so late July and August bring warmer water, and swimming is possible in September). Remember to bring a light jacket and plan for cooler mornings and chilly evenings.

July
Beaches, heat, humidity, and perfect summer days. Expect highs in the upper 70’s, and be sure to pack light clothing and beach accessories such as towels, sunblock, and sandals. For those who plan on outdoor recreation and sports, be aware of high humidity and bring plenty of water.

August
August weather is very similar to June’s- the temperature is in the upper 70’s, the days are perfect for beach going, and the days are also humid.

September
The month of September is the hidden treasure on Cape Cod. Most tourists have left, the kids are back in school…and the weather is comparable to August, although just a little cooler. If you plan on coming in the first weeks of September, you might be able to do some swimming at the beach, or at least lounge in a beach chair. The nights are cooler.

October
In October, the high temperatures reach the 50’s and even the 60’s. The air is cool and brisk, and the weather allows outdoor recreation such as biking, kayaking, walking, and golf.

November
November marks the beginning of a Cape Cod winter…the temperatures fall as low as the 40’s and even 30’s at night.

December
With temperatures in the 30’s and 40’s, December brings occasional snowfall (the most of which comes in January and February) and cold temperatures. Pack for the cold weather; boots, a heavy jacket, and gloves are necessary.
