In the Village green, the Julia Wood House and
the Conant House are maintained by the Falmouth
Historical society, and guided tours of the
homes as well as walking tours of the
surrounding area.
Julia Wood House
Built in 1790, the Julia Wood house brings back
colonial days with antique furnishings, clothes,
and toys. There is also an authentic doctor’s
office, which contains the equipment of the
house’s first owner, who helped with the
vaccination against smallpox.
Conant House
Located next to the Julia Wood House, the Conant
House is also maintained by the Falmouth
Historical Society. Built in 1794, the house
contains a library with authentic books from the
time, military items, as well as seafaring and
whaling memorabilia.
Congregational Church
The church, constructed in 1796 by the Quakers,
is located in the town green.

Charles D. and Margaret K Spohr Garden
Fells Road (off of Oyster Pond Road)
This privately owned garden is free for public
viewing, and is located on Oyster pond. There
are three acres of daffodils, rhododendrons,
azaleas, and other plants.

Marine Biological Laboratory and Woods Hole

In order to see the library at the institute,
you need to take the one-hour tour, offered from
June to August. You’ll be able not only to see
the library but view a slide show and visit the
laboratory. There is an extensive collection on
marine, biological, and ecological books,
journals, and data in the library.

Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution

Although most of the institution’s campus is
located outside of the village, the WHOI Exhibit
Center is open to the public for viewing the
various exhibits they offer. The institute also
operates some research vessels and even the
Alvin, which was used in the discovery and
exploration of the Titanic. Call for one
hour walking tours of the Woods Hole
Oceanographic Institution.

National Marine Fisheries Service Aquarium

Explore marine life including fish, crabs,
lobster, sea urchins, and even seals. One of the
oldest aquariums in the nation, there are many
educational activities and interesting
exhibits…it’s great for adults and children, who
will enjoy the hands-on activities.

Woods Hole Historical Museum

This small museum contains model ships, a model
of the town in the 19th century, old
ships logs and related memorabilia, and free
walking tours part from the museum in the
summer.
Located across from the Marsha’s Vineyard Ferry
parking lot.

Nobska Light
Nobska Light, located on Church Street, was
constructed in 1876. Check out the great views
of the Vineyard from the lighthouse; although it
is not open to the public, there are
occasionally tours offered.

Ashumet Holly and Wildlife Sanctuary

walking trails characterize this wildlife
sanctuary, with its 45 acres of donated land.

Waquoit Bay National

The Waquoit Bay National Esuarine Research
Reserve includes thousands of acres of estuary
and South Cape Beach. There are walking trails
which travel over marshes and an indoor exhibit
area that includes interactive learning
activities.
