The Outer Cape- the "forearm" area- is home to some of the most
unique, beautiful, and pristine coastline in the United States.
The mountainous, windswept dunes, curving shoreline, and
delicate marshlands make this area of the Cape truly special.
Along with the forty-mile long stretch of sandy white beach you
can find dozens of clear, deep, freshwater kettle ponds, a
variety of historic structures including lighthouses, a
lifesaving station, and numerous Cape Cod style houses.
Recognizing this area as a national treasure, President Kennedy
set out to protect this stretch of coastline from development.
In 1961 Congress and Kennedy passed landmark legislation
creating the Cape Cod National Seashore, a patchwork of 43,557
acres on outer Cape Cod under the jurisdiction of the National
Park Service. Stretching the entire length of Cape Cod's
Atlantic shoreline from Chatham to Provincetown, the National
Seashore operates six of the nations finest beaches- Coast Guard
Beach and Nauset Light Beach in Eastham; Marconi Beach in
Wellfleet; Head of the Meadow Beach in Truro; and Race Point and
Herring Cove Beaches in Provincetown.
Owners of 4x4 vehicles can get ORV stickers, which let you drive
